“Fall in Canada brings us many colours. Some plants keep the green of summer a little longer and others begin to remind us of winter a little sooner. Some things are the same colour all year round. Come have a look at the colours we see.” Opening piece from “The Many Colours of Fall” RS series.
Fall is such a beautiful time of year. It’s also an interesting time of year. It is a time between the “awake” of summer and the “asleep” of winter. The relatively quick change for animals and plants and even for us people is kind of fascinating when you think about it. The majestic nature of autumn and good old fall fun has been captured in the picture books below!
There are two other books that fall into more of a non-fiction category with ideas and facts spread throughout.
Barbara Greenwood’s A Pioneer Thanksgiving follows the story of a fictional pioneer family in eastern Canada but follows each section with factual information, pioneer games to play, crafts to make and recipes to try.
Jim Arnsoky’s Crickleroot’s Guide To Knowing The Trees takes us on a journey through the forest, with fact after fact about the life of various trees. While not really a fall book exactly, understanding the process of trees lends a lot to understanding the process trees undergo through the seasons and this was one we always seemed to gravitate toward in the fall.
