Mentoring and Consulting Sessions for Parents and Home Educators
About Me …
As a home educator/parent:
I’m Erin. :) I home educated for 20 years, primarily from a self-directed, whole life learning, unschooling perspective. That time has included mentorships and apprenticeships for my children, as well as classes, travel, curricula at times, and a full and simple home life.
I’ve been parenting for 25 years from a perspective of connection, respect and consent. I fit the definition of a radical unschool parent, but don’t let that frighten you! Respect, kindness and a healthy dose of order are important to me and are not only possible within a radical unschooling (whole life learning) paradigm, they are actually quite likely when we are living a collaborative and healthy (yet not perfect) family life.
I’m an imperfect parent with an imperfect family and this is where the learning has and continues to happen!
As a professional:
Coming from a background in social service work, social development studies, counselling and Gestalt Therapy, I have been working with families who have children, either young or grown, with disabilities, vulnerabilities or neurodivergence (including learning differences and mental health work) for 28 years (👀 How did that happen?!), providing big picture coordination, facilitation, direct support, job development and coaching.
I have worked with over 100 families as a prenatal educator, birth and postnatal doula, supporting families in developing and carrying out a vision/plan for their births and postnatal stages.
I’ve volunteered with the elderly, both healthy and within palliative care. I think it’s safe to say I’m interested in the human lifespan and intergenerational life!
As an individual:
I deeply enjoy the seasons! Living in central Ontario, Canada, I have the opportunity to experience four very distinct seasons. I love nature, music, dancing, history and humour.
I’m a person of Christian faith, and while I’ve connected with many Christian families, my work has also often been in either a secular realm or with a range of belief systems, so not only am I trained and able to work with people regardless of belief or style, I’m accustomed to and welcome it.
What I offer:
A “walking alongside” you in your parenting and/or home education journey through deep listening, support, sharing of my ideas, potential frameworks and resources.
One hour virtual mentoring session, $75 USD – Book a session here (please book at least one week in advance)
One hour session plus written overview and vision, $150 USD
E- Mentoring, $50 USD per hour
E- Mentoring plus written overview and session, $150 USD
Why E-Mentoring?
Mentoring over email can be ideal if it’s an easier avenue for you to find time and physical space for within busy family life, you tend to process better through reading and writing, or it’s simply more comfortable for you.
Can you do a combination of virtual appointments and e-communication? Yes, you can! Just let me know and we’ll decide how to move forward.
Who might this be a fit for?
I enjoy connecting with all kinds of families so if you are interested in exploring or deepening a rich, healthy and connected family life, whether homeschooling or not, I’m happy to hear from you.
And if you are homeschooling, I’d be pleased to connect with you regardless of the framework you come from or are looking toward.
What is the nature of the mentoring?
The central point is you and your family and that’s as individual as you are! However, there are some common aspects of family, home life and learning that I find to be consistently helpful as points to reflect from. They are interconnected but can also stand alone to consider.
Reimagining (can also be known as deschooling or unravelling some of our conditioned thoughts and assumptions about learning and life)
